Kronospan, the company behind Krono Original laminate flooring, claims to place a high priority on green issues when it comes to manufacturing its products. The firm says it is committed to using resources efficiently and to promoting and using a sustainable energy supply.

Kronospan Switzerland is a wood-processing company as well as a Krono laminate flooring manufacturer and works in line with a cascade energy ethos. This means that whilst it uses virgin wood to create its products, it uses recycled wood that has already served various other purposes throughout its lifespan to create the energy used in production processes. This removes the need to use fossil fuels.

Kronospan says that it works with suppliers, customers and partners to operate this recycling concept, and that it ensures that timber can travel a full circle in terms of its usage potential. In Switzerland, the firm even offers to collect the off-cuts from some customers, along with any unwanted wooden furniture, on the vehicle that is sent out to deliver new products. No extra transportation is needed to collect the recycled wood, and it can then be used to provide an energy source for the company.

Kronospan in Switzerland has a biomass energy generator which was introduced in the spring of 2010 to further enhance the company’s efforts in producing renewable energy. The firm now claims that it is making a valuable contribution to the Swiss goal of significantly reducing harmful greenhouse gasses. Kronospan Switzerland has been certified for its environmental management system, which ensures that only products that have already been recycled to their maximum effect can be burnt to create energy.

Kronospan says that these measures mean that in factories where Kronoswiss products – including Krono laminate flooring – are produced, the CO2 emissions for each unit that is produced are about ten times less than similar factories not run by Kronospan. The company claims that all projects involving infrastructure improvement or its logistics are planned with ecology in mind, along with a commitment to forming relationships with environmental organisations and local authorities. Krono span Switzerland has also pledged to continue investment in energy production technology, air and water purification systems and rail logistics in a bid to constantly improve and minimise the environmental impact of the business.
