Flooring can be a unique makeover for your room or your place, as its effects can last for a long time, with long-lasting aesthetic impacts on the people. However, before you start of the process of flooring, the floor must be prepared in a certain way. Here, in this article we shall talk about some of the ways in which you can prepare your floor for flooring.
Leveling the Floor-
You need to ensure that the floor is leveled. If it’s not, you need to level the floor. This is the first thing you need to do. You can check for bumps and other irregularities on the floor using a spirit level. Then you need to mark them. In case you are only replacing the old flooring, then you do not need to worry about leveling as the floor would already be leveled. The high or the bumpy spots on the floor are to be ground down. Lows are to be filled with some leveling compound. The process may require professional help, as the leveling must be perfect or near perfect.
Cleaning the surface of the sub-floor-
You need to clean the surface of the sub-floor (which is primarily a layer comprising of concrete or wood, placed beneath the surface flooring. The surface flooring can be of any material such a tile, wood, marble, mosaic, PVC, glass, terrazzo, stone, etc) after that. You need to get rid of the accumulated dust and dirt. More importantly, get rid of the debris and the left-over adhesive paints. To remove the paint, you can use a paint scrapper.
All base boards form the edge of the wall are to be removed-
The baseboards which are present at the edges of the wall, if any, are to be removed and re-installed after the process is done with and after the flooring has been installed. Be careful while prying off the base boards from the wall. Use of a pry bar is advised t to remove the base board.
Working on the doors-
It is best to remove the doors until the process is completely over. This should primarily be done to make sure that the doors are not damaged during the process. Also, the doors can be hindrance in the process, as they can swing at you. Under some circumstances, you may have to trim the bottom of the door if the floor is too high. If the floor is high as to catch the door, you might even have to consider replacing the door. Trimming is not always helpful as it can change the alignments.
