Quickstep’s Virtual Floor Styler aims to make it possible to ‘view before you buy’ by creating a virtual three-dimensional interior. The company says this can give you a better idea of what Quickstep laminate flooring or another choice would look like when fitted.

Of course, it has long been possible to view photographs of Quickstep’s flooring when laid, but for some people this information can be difficult to apply to their own circumstances. A 2D image can give you a good idea of what your flooring choice would look like, but the Floor Styler’s futuristic technology has been designed in a bid to make it easier to visualise your options and decide on exactly the right style and colour to choose.

Quickstep’s Virtual Floor Styler is currently being offered for trial at the Ideal Home Show, held at Olympia London between March 20 and April 6. Visitors can see the technology in action as well as learn all about the company’s range of quick-step laminate flooring and other products such as hardwood and vinyl options. If you are planning a trip to Britain’s largest annual home exhibition, you could be amongst the first people to make use of this brand new tool before ordering your choice of flooring.

Quickstep’s Virtual Floor Styler makes use of new technology known as Oculus DK2. It features a head-mounted display that allows you to become fully immersed in a computer-generated but supposedly realistic environment. You can then choose any floor you want and have it projected in 3D into what appears to be a real-life interior.

You can stroll around your virtual room and zoom in and out on your chosen floors. As you walk around, you can also change from one flooring option to another in order to decide which option you like the best.
