Advantages of Quick Step Flooring over Traditional Hardwood

Learn how Quick Step flooring can give you the look and feel of hardwood but with additional benefits.

Quick Step flooring is a high-quality laminate that gives you the look and feel of traditional hardwood flooring but with several important advantages over wood.

Price

Quick Step flooring is considerably more affordable than hardwood flooring. As laminate is manufactured by covering composite wood with an image of real wood, it costs far less to buy. If you’re re-flooring an entire house, the difference in price between laminate and hardwood can run to several thousand pounds. In addition, the cost of hiring a professional fitter is likely to be less when you’re installing laminate than when you’re using hardwood. That is not to say there isn’t a place for hardwood in your home; if your home is a period property with many original features and you intend to market it as a period property when the time comes to sell, hardwood may well provide a greater return on your investment in the long run, as it may appeal to a wider variety of buyers. If budget is an important issue, however, laminate flooring is hard to beat.

Durability

Laminate flooring is engineered to withstand scratches and to be durable and tough. Although wood has the advantage that you can sand down and re-varnish any damaged areas, this is a time-consuming and often specialist job and might not be possible if a large area of the floor is damaged or if scratches run very deep.

Water-Resistance

Several of the Quick Step lines of laminate flooring are specifically designed for use in bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and other areas of the home which are exposed to high levels of humidity and moisture. This means you don’t need to worry about spillages or damp, as the flooring is designed to withstand this. Solid wood flooring is not suitable for kitchens and bathrooms, as it is affected by the high levels of humidity. If you do wish to install solid wood flooring in these areas, you’ll generally need specialist lacquers and to take certain precautions during both the installation process and in everyday use to avoid damaging the flooring.
